Use DiDi without guessing the pickup point.

Prepare a DiDi ride in China: registration, payment, airport pickup, vehicle checks and what to do if your driver cannot find you.

The short answer

Register with a phone number you can use during the trip, prepare the payment method, and confirm the pickup zone before requesting a car. Match the vehicle details in the app before boarding.

Prepare the app before you need the ride

Beijing’s official guide describes DiDi’s English interface and registration with Chinese or foreign phone numbers. Follow the current official app flow on your device; a guide to available features does not guarantee that every account or card will pass verification instantly.

Set up payment before standing outside with luggage. The app, an embedded mini-program and an ordinary metered taxi may use different payment arrangements. Do not assume a ride booked in an app can always be settled in cash.

Request your first journey

Use the Chinese destination address from your accommodation confirmation when the English search returns several similar places. Check the branch and arrival pin before ordering.

  1. Select the destination and confirm the correct hotel, station or attraction entrance.
  2. Set the pickup point to the place where you can legally meet the car; inspect the terminal level and zone.
  3. Choose a vehicle category that fits your passengers and luggage; do not infer capacity from price alone.
  4. Read the estimated fare, waiting information and any extra charges shown.
  5. Confirm the request, then watch the assigned vehicle and pickup instructions.
  6. At pickup, match the plate and vehicle details with the app. If they do not match, resolve the discrepancy before boarding.

Airport pickups need one extra check

Find the signed ride-hailing area before committing to a precise pickup point. The app may request a terminal, floor, door or bay. “Arrivals” by itself can be too broad for the driver to find you.

If your baggage has not arrived, wait before ordering unless the service explicitly includes a suitable waiting arrangement. If the app is not working, compare the official taxi queue or transport desk rather than accepting an unsolicited offer in the hall.

When the driver cannot find you

Stay at the agreed safe pickup point and use the in-app communication options. A short message with the marked door or bay is more useful than a landmark the driver cannot see. Never cross a restricted road to chase the moving map icon.

Common pickup problems
ProblemWhat to do
Pin is on the wrong side of the roadUse the app’s permitted pickup adjustment or contact the driver; choose a legal stopping point.
No usable mobile dataReturn to a staffed area or stable connection; do not keep requesting duplicate rides.
Wrong airport or station destinationCorrect it through the app before travelling; allow for the changed fare and journey.
Need to cancelRead the displayed cancellation terms and confirm whether a fee applies.
Something left in the carOpen the completed trip and use its lost-item/support channel; keep the trip record.

Finish the payment and keep the trip record

Review the final fare in the app and settle any outstanding amount through the supported process. If the result is unclear, check the trip status before making a second payment outside the app.

For your return journey, save a pickup point near the attraction’s actual exit. Large parks and museums do not necessarily send you out where you entered.

Put this into your trip
